Food and Family Warm the Soul
In my photos, I love to capture nature because of its seeming stillness in a world that is constantly moving and changing. In this project, however, I challenged myself to capture my the owners of a small business, Serena and Toriano, in constant motion as they and their team prepare food for their beloved customers. “Family And Food Warm The Soul” is a project that focuses on the ways that a black-owned restaurant in Durham called, “Boricua Soul”, portrays the value of family in both the way they cook their food and treat their costumers. This restaurant has transformed the way I now understand the importance of food in relation to creating community. This project also highlights that though the pandemic has posed great obstacles for businesses around the nation, this particular restaurant has remained successful because of the value of community that the owners and employees uphold in their service to the Durham community.
