Life takes many turns, and this past year has truly been a testament to that. Throughout its changes however, there’s one thing that keeps us as humans grounded, or even, at times, sane, and that is each other. In a time of social distancing, and online, screen-filled connections, of a life-threatening pandemic, many of these relationships have been hindered, or even lost. I started this semester seeking to highlight new-found relationships, particularly Duke workers as unexpected friends I had made through my daily interactions. Unfortunately, as my semester took a turn, my project did as well. Instead of a story of gained relationships, it became one of loss. Instead of a story focused on others, it became my own. One where I found joy even in the midst of loss because of the beautiful humans, family, in my life.
