When I was in grade school, I spent a few weeks of summer in the rural countryside of North Dakota. I learned to ride horses. I felt like a real cowboy. Later, my family moved to a large metropolitan city. Before beginning this project, I didn’t touch a single horse since then. While thinking of small-town project ideas for this course, my mind went back to the horses.

I set off on this project with the sole intent of just making beautiful photographs of the horses and the farm landscape, but I eventually began to photograph much more. I listened to the history of Blue Skies, and its reason for being. Throughout the few months I was there, Deborah shared with me her life-long passion. I hope some of you can get a glimpse of what life is like at Blue Skies of Mapleview.
